#27: BRIAN BAILEY: Award Winning Radio Host & Program Director
I met with Brian Bailey, who has over 15 years of broadcasting experience, won On-Air Talent of the Year award at the Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards, and he currently co-hosts the Big Breakfast show on Big FM in Kingston and is also the Program Director for all of the Corus Entertainment Radio Stations in Kingston.
This episode will give you a solid picture of behind the scenes at radio. We start out the conversation by getting some background about his experiences in the changing landscape of radio over these last 15 years. We hear about what it’s like being part of launching a brand new radio station in a major market, as he was part of the inaugural morning show hosting team at indie88.
This is like a double-value episode. You get to hear about what a host and co-host’s job is like as well as a Program Director!
We get in to radio ratings and what determines a station’s popularity rating over others; an archaic system that I am still surprised by. We get some advice on how people can get into radio in an increasingly competitive field with a shrinking workforce population.
Brian is well versed in the inner workings on the radio world. He is also super witty, a very entertaining conversationalist and clearly meant to be an on-air personality. So, although I’m sure you’ll learn something from this episode, you definitely won’t be short on entertainment value either.
