#23: JARED 'J.PAUL' JACKSON - Keys N Krates' Tour Manager & Sound Engineer
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a Tour Manager, and life on the road with the band? Well, this episode we’re getting some insight into that world! Jared, or "J.Paul", generously gave some time in his busy schedule to speak to me about what it’s like as the tour manager and sound engineer with Keys N Krates…. He’s like their 4th member! If you weren’t already in love with this band because of their awesome music, you’ll love them for just how great the crew as a whole really is. He has actually turned down every other tour manager offer that has come his way…. And he’s had the chance to work with some really big DJs, but he tells us why he couldn’t say no to the Keys N Krates opportunity. We discuss some of the challenges of tour managing and also why he loves it so much. He gives insight on some things to be careful for when first starting out, as well as what he feels is the key to being a GREAT Tour Manager. He tells us how his need to understand the 360 picture of everything has worked for and against him in his career. He also makes me proud to be Canadian throughout our conversation as he explains what he loves about working with us folks up here north of the border. Get ready to hear some really great tour stories, from a promoter assistant being held hostage for payment, to the first-hand encounter with a naked female fan jumping on stage and unexpectedly piggy-backing one of the band members… you may have heard about that one on TMZ. Lots of great listening ahead in the next hour... And I should really be keeping this secret but I’m too excited so I’m going to tell you now: The next BONUSode, coming soon, will be with Keys N Krates drummer, Adam Tune on touring like an expert: tips and tricks to living the good life and a band member while on the road. Although Jared was speaking to me through his cell phone all the way down in Arizona, thanks to Long & McQuade for supplying me with the mic equipment! Checkem’ out, they’ve got a bunch of locations! www.long-mcquade.com
