#3: DERRICK ROSS President of the Slaight Music, Former Member of The Spoons, Artist Manager, Agent,
Looking for funding for your music initiative? This episode may be very useful for you! We can't think of anyone else in the industry that has had such an impressive amount of experiences in so many different capacities of the music industry.
From starting out his career as a member of the internationally acclaimed band, The Spoons, Derrick Ross has also been a manager for acts such as the Skydiggers and Jim Witter; he started and owned an Independent Record label (FRE Records), was General Manager at Enigma Records; owner and founder of the independent radio promotions company, DMD Entertainment (where Adrian Strong (remember Episode 1?) is currently president of), a Vice President at both EMI Music Canada, as well as S. L. Feldman and Associates (where he was Carly Rae Jepsen's first agent!) and the list goes on.
Right now, his current title is president of Slight Music, or as others like to call him, "Santa's Little Helper". At Slaight, he supports the music community in a variety of ways including investing in Artists' careers by helping them to develop strategic partnerships and plans, supporting music entrepreneurs on the technology side to develop the next generation of digital platforms and services; as well as being heavily involved in a variety of music-related events, causes and charities.
In this episode, he tells us how he got to where he is today and what he thinks the secret of really growing and succeeding in the music industry is.
