#21: Pt. 1: RON LOPATA - Finding, Developing and Getting Talent Signed
PART 1
In this first half of a conversation with VP of A&R at Warner Music Canada, we dig in to his background: how he started out and dabbled in other potential career options before discovering that music is really where he was meant to me.
I’d suggest getting your note pads out for this one! We cover a few really great topics which should be of interest to both artists and people on the business side. The main ones you might want to keep an ear open for are: - How he finds artists to work with and develop - His formula for landing an artist a record deal in 1 year! - His philosophy on perfecting an artist’s craft - The winning combination of traits to for an artist to be successful. He believes that having at least 2 of the 3 traits is the key. - All of the roles and responsibilities entailed in being an A&R rep
We also go through a case study of a Scott Helman, and act that is signed to the label. He tells us how he discovered him and the progression of his career to where it is today.
Enjoy!
