#17 RICHARD MILLS Booking Agent and VP of Performing Arts at The Feldman Agency
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another episode of The One Sheet! We’ve had quite a few requests to have a booking agent on, and so, I’m happy to let you know that the day has finally arrived! Richard, the VP of Performing Arts at The Feldman Agency, has represented many successful acts, some of which are Ron Sexsmith, The Tenors, Natalie McMaster, Shawn Mendes, to name a few. I met with Richard in a café restaurant early in the morning before it got too busy. So if you hear some people talking or dishes in the background, that’s why. We discuss what exactly the role of an agent is and when an artist is ready for an agent, as well as some of the different types of performances an artist can be booked for and the benefits of each. He explains everything that’s involved on the booking side from once the show is actually booked through until the show day. We hear how he made his way to the career position he’s in today and what first peaked his interest about this path. Funny, at one point in his life, he swore he would never become an agent! We get some great stories as well, such as Fred Penner being his first client on the booking side or how he booked The Tragically Hip for $400! One last thing to make note of: The One Sheet now has it’s own home! Weekly episodes will also be posted on the blog. Check it out here: www.theonesheet.ca! Enjoy!
