#10: WARREN COPNICK Promotions and A&R at Sony Music Canada
This episode, we sit down with the “The Kosher Cowboy”, a.k.a. the Director of National Promotions and A&R at Sony Music Canada.
He explains the workings of the promotions department at a major record label, sheds some light on how radio tracking and charts work, how they pitch a new artist to radio stations, how to get discovered and signed by a major label (!); as well as some tips for independent artists who want to get set up and on the right track, the 3 kinds of deals you can have with a label and how negotiations typically go.
He literally walks me through how an artist gets signed, right through to the release plan and execution.
We had listeners contribute their questions to this podcast so thank you everyone for your contributions and keep an ear open for the answers!
